Hamir Soib

One of the artist in the Matahati group. Went to his 'Gudang' to shoot a portrait of him for my portrait series. A very warm and down to earth guy although he's a big shot in Malaysian visual art scene and probably in Asia. Right at the moment, he's preparing a painting for an exhibition held in Singapore in September. A large 10x10 feet tortoise hanging on the wall that give somewhat an eery feeling when you enter his studio. Most of his paintings are huge. Why? Because he used to work as a set artist for theater and movies, most notably 'Anna and the King'.

The shoot took place in his studio. A large dark poorly lit warehouse in Damansara with lots of props from the previous job. He just finished an interview when I arrived. My camera can't really focus well when we do the headshot because of the dim light and I don't have a modelling light, so he pull out his lighter from his pocket and help me lit his face. He's being really helpful throughout the process seeing me running here and there with a very limited equipment. Thanks dude. Anyway the shoot turns out well. What I need now is an assistance and a damn good equipment.

Prep

Made a triangular softbox out of wires, cotton, nylon, alluminium foil, etc. Will show the product later on. Anyway this is the test result with the DIY softbox.

A prep to shoot Hamir Soib tomolo..

Caught In A Headlight

At last... After looking for a willing model for a photo shoot for a 'Caught in a headlight' mug shot series (which is still on progress), I have started to paint again. I haven't paint for looooong time to be honest and this is a very exciting moment. I've met with Mr. Bad last month and he mentioned that he don't believe a skill will fade if you don't practice which I totally agree. I'm still BAADASSSSS! Anyway, I thought i'd put up some progress of the paintings here.
